Attack Report
Pirates are believed to have captured a Bangladeshi-flagged vessel in the Arabian Sea off the coast of India after it was chased and attacked on Sunday, Bangladesh’s shipping department chief said.
The “M.V Jahan Moni” with 25 Bangladeshi crew was heading towards the Suez Canal when it came under attack twice by heavily armed pirates in a space of 90 minutes, Rear Admiral Bazlur Rahman said.
“We lost contact with the ship at 5.38 pm Bangladesh time after it was attacked by pirates for the second time. We suspect the ship has been captured by the pirates,” Rahman told AFP.
“All symptoms are there that the pirates have taken control of the ship. It was chased by the pirates for more than an hour. It has sent stress signal and then raised security alarm. Now it is showing erratic movement,” he said.
