The war against pirates is set to escalate, as naval forces fear that Somali pirates will up the ante and begin attacking vessels with broadsides from deck-mounted machine guns.

Whereas the rocket-propelled grenade has until now been the weapon of choice for the many Somalis there are fears of a dangerous escalation in firepower as pirates look to innovate to win the upper hand against merchant vessels.
