According to a new study, only 17 percent of German shippers believe the EU mission in Somalia, Operation ATALANTA, was contributing a significant amount to the fight against piracy.

This figure of confidence is down when compared with a reported 40 percent figure last year.

According to the study by consultancy PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) the vast majority, 80 percent, also felt that the payment of ransoms had created problems and that things are set to worsen.
