 Miguel Trovoada, the executive secretary of the Gulf of Guinea Commission (GGC), has urged the organization to play a more active role in regional maritime security.

African Countries for More Security in the Gulf of Guinea

Luanda, Aug 12 (Prensa Latina) The executive secretary of the Gulf of Guinea Commission (GGC), Miguel Trovoada, urged the organization to play a more active role in the maritime security of that region.

In his address during a special meeting of the Council of Ministers of the GGC, he proposed the foundation of a working group among civilian and military experts to analyze the collaboration format between that body and the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).

He considered cooperation between both bodies includes security in the Gulf of Guinea, a fuel-oil space of great economic and commercial importance for the African countries, where piracy and armed robbery prevail.

The Commission requires the recruitment of technical and administrative experts, Trovoada assessed in this meeting held in Talatona’s Conventional Center in the capital.

In the GGC meeting, Angola’s Foreign Minister George Chicoti urged to seek solutions to the recovery of the Commission’s economic and financial situation.

GGC was founded in 2001, and country members are: Angola, Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo and Sao Tome and Principe.
