Managing a Piracy Incident
Control Risks, the world’s leading provider of incident response services, has designed a workshop for managers who will play a key role in responding to a piracy incident at a local or corporate level.
This unique workshop combines presentations, video and audio materials and case histories. The workshop also contains role playing exercises where delegates will work through a piracy incident from beginning to end. The exercises have been designed in order to enable attendees to practice lessons learned and gain experience of a real-time incident.
The two-day course will equip participants with an awareness of the problems which can develop during an incident and an understanding of how to address these during a live situation.
Managing a Piracy Incident
Piracy continues to represent a significant threat to organisations operating globally. Of particular concern is the threat posed by pirate groups to operators in the wider Gulf of Guinea area, where the International Maritime Bureau (IMB) recorded a significant rise in incidents in the first six months of 2012. Piracy also continues to threaten the areas around South and South-east Asia as well as the Horn of Africa.
Organisations operating in high-risk areas need to ensure they are prepared. Control Risks offers workshops designed to help clients manage the response to a piracy incident more effectively and with greater confidence. Control Risks’ Piracy Incident Management Workshops will provide attendees with an in-depth understanding of the complex involved in a piracy case. The two-day course will equip participants with an awareness of the problems which can develop during an incident and an understanding of how to address these during a live situation.
What will be addressed?
Delivered by experienced crisis management and security consultants with comprehensive hands-on experience in dealing with piracy and kidnap incidents, the course will:
- Provide an up-to-date overview of the piracy threat around the world
- Outline the best-practice principles of incident management, including the roles and responsibilities of the crisis management organisation
- Consider the key participants and how to manage potentially conflicting interests – this will include liaison with families, government agencies and the media as well as cargo owners, crewing and port agents
- Incorporate practical exercises to illustrate the phases and mechanics of a piracy incident, including communications with the pirates and negotiation strategies
- Explain the skills and strategies required to influence the participants and reach a satisfactory resolution to the incident
The workshop will combine formal presentations, video and audio materials, case histories and role playing. Delegates will work through a piracy incident from beginning to end, immersing themselves in the scenario. The exercise will enable attendees to practice lessons learned and gain experience of a real-time incident.
