In their efforts to strengthen their strategic partnership, the Philippines and Japan have renewed their commitment to advancing cooperation in the field of maritime security.
The pledge was made during the second bilateral meeting between Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario and Japan Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida held this week at the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo, according to the department of Foreign Affairs.
This came after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe manifested for the first time Japan’s full support for the Philippines’ initiation of arbitral proceedings last January, pursuant to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), in its bid to clarify maritime zones and entitlements in the South China Sea
