A Bahraini sail training ship had its safe transit assured through a known maritime crime hotspot by Combined Task Force (CTF) 151’s flagship.
The recently purchased sail training vessel, the Albudayyi, was making her maiden voyage to Bahrain from Turkey when she transited the Gulf of Aden and Gulf of Oman.
The British Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship, Fort Austin, shadowed the Albudayyi at a distance to deter any hostile attention as she travelled through the pirate high risk area.
Commodore Jeremy Blunden, Royal Navy, Commander of CTF 151, said: “It is excellent that CTF 151 was able to provide reassurance to the Albudiyyi as she transited this region which is known for crime on the high seas.”
CTF 151 is one of three task forces operated by CMF. Its mission is to disrupt piracy and armed robbery at sea and to engage with regional partners to protect maritime commerce and secure freedom of navigation.
