Port2Port expects a swift acquittal for two British maritime security guards arrested in Nigeria on their return to the country for trial.
The hearing, originally scheduled for 14 May, has now been postponed until the first week of July, said MD Andrew Varney. But he told IHS Maritime that Vincent Haywood and Piers Eastwood, who are contracted by the firm’s Nigerian arm, are likely to be cleared without facing a prosecution case.
“I think we will be returning to the hearing in July to be exonerated, because there is no evidence,” he said. “I don’t think they will bring a case.”
