Abe fosters regional security ties
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Sunday in Colombo that Japan will provide Sri Lanka with patrol vessels free of charge to improve the South Asian nation’s coast guard capabilities, and the president welcomed the offer.
At their summit meeting, Abe also proposed that the two countries reinforce cooperation in maritime security affairs, as Sri Lanka is a midway point in Japan’s sea lanes from the Middle East.
