Tanzania: Italian Naval Ship On Five-Day Visit of Dar Port

THE Italian Navy destroyer, ‘ITS Andrea Doria,’ currently assigned to the European Union (EU)’s counter-piracy Operation Atlanta off the coast of Somalia, is making a port visit in Dar es Salaam for five days from November 21st to 26th.

During the warship’s visit its crew will conduct training and share information with the Tanzanian Navy and other national agencies in the framework of the EU missions in Tanzania.

Speaking at a press meeting in Dar es Salaam, the destroyer’s Commanding Officer, Captain Angelo Virdis, said they would also assist with developing a programme for Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC), sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Defence in cooperation with the Italian Embassy in Dar es Salaam.
