As piracy and illegal fishing continue to cause significant issues in the region, the Ivory Coast Navy’s latest ship, Emergence, has already made its first arrests. According to local media, the ship has intercepted four ships engaged in illegal fishing in the country’s waters.

Emergence is one of three ships ordered by Ivory Coast President, Alassane Ouattara, to combat piracy and maritime crime in the nation’s territorial waters. The first of these, Emergence, arrived in June and the last is expected in March 2015.
