Crew of illegal fishing boat handed over to West African police

MARK COLVIN: The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society says the crew of an illegal fishing boat has now been taken into police custody.

Sea Shepherd rescued the 40 crew from the trawler, named the Thunder, when it sank overnight.

The conservation activists had been chasing the Thunder for the past 110 days after they found the ship illegally taking Patagonian toothfish near Antarctica.

The ship’s ended up near the small island nation of Sao Tome on the west coast of Africa.
