Indonesian Navy Foils Smuggling Attempt of 50 kg Methamphetamine from Thailand
March 18: The Indonesian Navy’s FIQR Team of the Lhokseumawe Naval Base foiled a smuggling attempt of 50 kg of crystal methamphetamine from Thailand in the Lhokseumawe waters in Aceh Province.
“It occurred during a routine patrol in the Lhokseumawe waters on Monday (March 18, 2019), when the team saw two suspicious fishing boats in the Ujong Blang waters, Lhokseumawe,” First Admiral Ali Triswanto, commander of the Belawan Naval Base I, told the press on Tuesday.
The Indonesian naval officers chased after the two fishing boats using two sea riders and finally managed to stop them.
The Navy seized five sacks containing 50 kg of crystal methamphetamine and one gun, and nabbed four suspects, he said.
The illicit drugs were smuggled into Aceh from Thailand. The two fishing boats unloaded the drugs in the maritime border area.
The Navy has handed over the illicit drugs, the gun and the four suspects to the National Narcotic Agency (BNN) for a further investigation.
