Indonesian Authorities Seize 43.5 kg Methamphetamine and Arrest 4 Suspects
July 25: Indonesia’s National Police’s Narcotics Directorate apprehended four suspected narcotics traffickers in Bengkalis, Riau, on July 25. The suspects were identified as AK (31), RDW (40), MR (43), and HR (43). The police seized with them 43.5 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.
“The narcotics are delivered via the sea from Malaysia to Pakning Port, Bengkalis,” said the Police’s Narcotics Director Brig. Gen. Eko Daniyanto in his office, Jakarta, Thursday, August 1.
According to Eko, the arrest resulted from public information regarding the planned illegal drugs distribution from Malaysia on July 25. The police collaborated with the Customs Office monitored the port. However, they failed to catch the suspects at that time.
A day after, the police and Customs Office succeeded to track two drug couriers, AK and RDW, in Dompas Village. Based on the two suspects’ testimony, the police hunted down the other two suspects MR and HR. They were nabbed on Jalan Lintas Timur KM 88, Kemeng Village, Pelalawan in the same day.
From them, the police confiscated 40 kilograms of crystal meth wrapped in 16 packages and 3.5 kilograms of crystal meth that spilled during a police chase.
The suspects are likely to be charged with a maximum of life imprisonment up to death penalty. Police investigation on the owners of the illegal drugs was still proceeding.
