US Active Duty Sailor Shoots and Kills Two Civilians, Injures A Third, at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard in Honolulu
December 04, 14:30 LT (12:30 GMT +1): A US military spokesman has confirmed that on Wednesday an active-duty sailor at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard) in Honolulu shot and killed two civilian shipyard workers, and injured a third civilian employee, before killing himself. The shooting occured near Shipyard Drydock 2, a maintenance area for nuclear submarines.
The shooter’s name has not been released, but it has been confirmed that he was assigned to the USS Columbia. It was unclear what type of gun was used or whether the attack was targeted. The victims’ names were being withheld pending family notification, according to base officials.
The base was placed in lockdown for approx. one and a half hours, and confirmed reopened three hours after the incident. Both base security and Navy Investigative Services are now conducting an investigation
