Tanker Boarded in Gulf of Guinea, 45NM South of Cotonou (UPDATE: One CM Kidnapped)
UPDATE March 06: The vessel has been secured by the Beninese Navy and the attack is now over. According to Greece’s Shipping Ministry, one crew member – a Filipino worker – was abducted during the attack. All other crew reached the citadel during the incident and are now reported safe and in good health.
March 05, 13:00 UTC: Initial reports that the tanker MT MINERVA VIRGO (IMO #9307827) is under attack in position 05°36,13 N, 002°20,38 E. Initial reports that 5-6 individuals have successfully boarded the vessel. UNCONFIRMED reporting that the majority of crew have reached the citadel with one person unaccounted for. Mariners are advised to exercise extreme caution in this area.
